At Nitro Green we provide quality products and trained, licensed technicians in your lawn care service.

Lawn Care Program

8 applications per year consisting of:

  • Pre-Emergents
  • Fertilizer, slow and high nitrogen
  • Potash
  • Iron/Micronutrients
  • Grassy Weed Control
  • Broadleaf Weed Control
  • 1 Lime Application

The service provided during each application is determined by the type of grass, the season, conditions found and the current weather conditions.  We apply just what your lawn needs when it needs it!  Notes are input in our computer system on the detail of the treatment as well as any conversations between you and the  technician or you and our office staff.  This provides us with an ongoing history of your lawn.  This historical data helps us evaluate the progress of your lawn and make recommendations to prevent future problems or improve any weak areas.   If a home we service is sold, the new owner can resume service on the lawn with a full history of all the conditions and treatments available in our records.

We also offer optional services, including:

  • Aeration
  • Overseeding
  • Perimeter insect control
  • Ornamental Tree and Shrub Care
  • Grub, Fungus and Fire Ant Prevention

Aeration

Our Tennessee Valley soil is heavy clay that becomes very compacted.  This makes it difficult for your grass to obtain water, air and nutrients.  If you want a thick lawn, it is necessary to core aerate the lawn at least once a year.  Core aeration pulls plugs out of the soil, thus relieving the compaction.

Aeration and Overseeding

This service applies to those who have Fescue lawns.  Because Fescue is a cool season, grass thins out during the heat of summer.  Since it is a clump grass and cannot spread, it must be overseeded each fall.  We provide a service to aerate and overseed Fescue lawns in September and October.

Perimeter Pest Control

This service is a series of 10 applications beginning in February, which establishes an insect shield around your home.  This shield drastically reduces the number of insects that can get into your home.

Grub Prevention

Grub Worms are the larvae of Japanese, June and other beetles.  The beetles lay the eggs in the grass where they hatch and then feed off the grass roots.  If there are enough of them (which is common) they can destroy an entire lawn.  Due to the fact that they are lying at the root level, you do not even know they are feeding until the damage is great enough to leave visible damage to the grass.  We can apply a very safe preventive product in mid-summer that will keep your lawn free of grubs for one year.

Fire Ant Control

Fire ants are little critters with a huge sting.  Many people are allergic to fire ant stings.  The ants have been know to kill animals as well as people.  Their presence can be recognized by the large earth mounds they build.  Fire ants usually have multiple queens that live 2 to 7 years and produce 1500 or more eggs per day.  Thus a colony can have 100,000 to 500,000 ants.  They are extremely difficult to control when bait or similar products are used to kill a mound.  At that time, the Queen abandons that mound, moves a few feet away to another underground location and another mound is built.  To fully control the fire ants, we have a very safe product that is applied to the whole yard and the flower beds.  Within six weeks, this destroys the entire underground colony and keeps the area treated fire ant free for one year.

Fungus Control

Often when we have warm, humid nights, lawns will be attacked by fungus.  This can seriously damage a lawn.  If we see it when we are on your lawn, or are notified by you that there are irregular brown spots appearing, we can apply a fungicide to stop further damage.  This product can be put down as a preventive product to decrease the possibility of damage.  However, if the fungus pops up suddenly, it can also be applied as a curative to prevent further damage.

Tree and Shrub Care

We provide a 7 Application Program to care for your shrubs and small trees.  We apply a pre-emergent to the beds in early spring and early fall, fertilize the beds and trees, spray for insects and fungus through the summer months and apply a horticulture oil to protect them in winter.
